History must be reconceptualized from narrative to practice. Instead of imparting specific facts or narratives, educators must empower students to practice history. Students must be taught to think critically about the historical claims they are exposed to. Students should be empowered to critically analyze document and narratives, and they should be encouraged to seek out perspectives, particularly those perspectives which are ignored by traditional narratives. If students learn Historiography, then they will be able to form their own critical views. This empowerment enables students to understand how history is produced instead of merely knowing the current general consensus. Understanding the practice of history prepares students for historical revisions and reinterpretations and will improve the quality of popular historical and pedagogical discourse. Additionally, students thus empowered will form their own perspectives and mitigate the risk of being propagandized.
